In September 2023, the "Rest Assured" (大家放心) launch event for Under the Light (《坚如磐石》) was held in Beijing. Using its in-house XR and AR technology, 7D Vision created an immersive virtual interview space. It gave the filmmakers a relaxed setting for interviews, let audiences feel the film's atmosphere early, and built anticipation ahead of the release.
The event took place on 7 September at 7D Vision's studio. Director Zhang Yimou appeared with cast members Lei Jiayin, Zhang Guoli, Yu Hewei, Sun Yizhou, Li Naiwen, Xu Yajun, He Zhengjun, Lin Boyang and Chen Tong. After four years, the film was set to open in cinemas nationwide on 28 September.
7D Vision used the ViCave XR immersive system to build the virtual interview space. Its main scene was Chongqing, where the film was shot, taking the cast back to a location they had left four years earlier. AR placement presented the film's title in 3D with a rock-like texture, and it appeared repeatedly throughout the livestream to reinforce the film in viewers' minds.
The AR title used the four characters of the film's name in hand-written calligraphy, and the set created a glittering, neon-lit urban world. Seated in the virtual interview space, Zhang Yimou, Lei Jiayin, Zhang Guoli, Yu Hewei and the rest of the cast shared their experiences of the shoot with the audience.
Working to a tight production schedule, 7D Vision overcame a number of challenges. It took time to understand the film's ideas and the filmmakers' needs, and then used XR virtual production to complete the virtual stage, drawing the audience into the world of Under the Light. 7D Vision's XR technology has also supported marketing events including the Foton Motor launch, the Yadea product launch and the 2022 Big Data Expo cloud-launch livestream.
