2023 Qixi Wonder Tour (《2023 七夕奇妙游》) is the first modern-day "Wonder Tour" in Henan TV's Chinese Festivals series. It used 7D Vision's in-house XR immersive studio technology to create Chinese-fantasy settings and give viewers an immersive visual experience.
Themed on love, with growing up at its heart, the special moved the story into the present day. 7D Vision's ViCave XR immersive technology carried viewers from the real world into a Qixi love story. The story unfolds through time travel, with location shooting in Guizhou, Beijing and Henan, and XR and VR visuals created one inventive fantasy scene after another.
Using its XR immersive studio technology, 7D Vision created a virtual set built from Chinese motifs: the Qixi bridge, a crescent moon, the Matchmaker's tree, and pavilions and terraces, all matching the show's theme of Chinese romance. The host and guests held their conversations inside the immersive virtual set, and the hyper-real visuals made viewers feel as if they were there.
This took place during the livestreamed warm-up: host Li Lun was joined by chief directors Li Peng and Wang Xin and director of photography Liu Wei, who discussed the making and visual spectacle of the show inside the 7D-built virtual space.
The special was Henan TV's third Qixi journey. It was structured in four chapters, First Meeting, Pledge, Parting and Companionship, telling love stories from different stages of life. Miao song and dance, a pairs ice dance, a solo ballet and Chinese opera were woven into the story, with XR, VR and digital humans used together to heighten the emotion.
Since 2022, Henan TV has used 7D Vision's ViCave XR immersive studio system, built on 7D's in-house ViEngine real-time 3D rendering engine, across programmes including the Wonder Tour festival series and Opera in the Textbook (《课本里的戏曲》). It creates expansive immersive virtual environments in a limited physical space while keeping ultra-high-definition resolution. Besides Henan TV, 7D Vision works closely with broadcasters including CCTV, Beijing TV and Hunan TV.
